The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

I want to be a better designer and web developer. It's always been my dream and for the past 5 or so years I have made great strides in doing just that. I graduated in 2011 with my bachelors in graphic design and also currently work full-time in St. George, Utah as a web designer for the local university. It's been great, but I feel like I'm still lacking something...
I know that I can be a better designer.
So many times I start off a project so enthusiastic only to have it end in mediocrity. I know good designers have a difficult time reaching their own expectations, but I want to overcome this.
I have decided to continue my education with ASU's MS in Graphic Information Technology and further explore web ui/ux especially in relation to higher education. This is a good start, but I believe I'll need more than a masters to reach my potential.
For the longest time I've been a fan of beeple (Mike Winkelmann) and his 'everydays'. You see beeple puts out very interesting Cinema4D work everyday, and has been for nearly 3,000 consecutive days. That is astounding and you can see just how much he has improved because of it. Sean McCabe just gave a keynote for Creative South and he was saying the same thing. A consistent schedule of making an effort to share designs, thoughts, and ideas can really help with your own skills.
I plan on following suite and making every Monday my "Design Weekly" and publishing my own work to share with the world to see or use. My focus will be on icon and interface design with some emphasis on maybe 3D in the browser using something like three.js.
So my next post should be on the 4th of May and will be the first step forward on a new long journey!
Wish me luck!
